Bonfire Recruitment is working on a retained basis with a leading food manufacturing company based near Manchester, to recruit a Production Manager.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role will involve managing a production team of operators through supervisors, team size approx 120 heads. Ensuring HSEQ standards are adhered too, drive performance through people development and highlighting area improvements.


Job Description

  • SHE– Plays an active role in the achievement of departmental safety environmental targets, by co-ordinating departmental inspections and ensuring the achievement of corrective actions. Comply with the Employees Health and Safety responsibilities as defined in the company/site health and safety policies
  • LABOUR – Plan and manage the day-to-day allocation of labour to safely and cost-effectively achieve production targets.  Analyse labour variances putting actions in place to limit cost. Absence control to expected standards
  • PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE – to understand and manage performance systems to ensure that all data is up to date and relevant.  Highlight variance and continually drive improvement activities.
  • MATERIAL USAGE/REQUIRMENTS – Ensure that all transactions and orders placed into the system are accurate and completed in a timely manner.  Analyse material/ stock variances putting actions in place to limit cost.   Ensure stock takes are carried out and discrepancies cleared.
  • QUALITY – Ensure that housekeeping and hygiene standards are maintained at the highest level. Play an active role in Quality audits implementing corrective actions. Ensure compliance with our QMS, QAS & GMP systems.
  • TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT – Coach and develop team members to meet current and future business requirements.  Work with your Manager to develop training plans to ensure the correct level of required skills is available.  Ensure all training matrices are kept up to date.
  • COMMUNICATION – Support excellent communication within the team/area by updating the notice boards, briefing your team, coaching SiC-based performance and supplying information to be used in team briefs.
  • CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT-To support Continuous Improvement activities/ projects using ILM, BiT and greenbelt techniques to drive your team to improve further


Candidate Requirements

The role will require a forward thinking people manager who is able to liaise with all levels within the business to ensure quality and safety, drive performance and develop staff within the team, whilst contributing on various improvement projects.

  • Experience of managing at a production team within a food production environment.
  • Proactive involvement in Continuous Improvement.
  • Strategic thinker, able to make decisions and manage change positively.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels internally and externally.
